"Why do you make iron suits? I'm sure you have a good reason why you do what you do, and I have reasons of my own. Now, you could try to get this cash out there, but you already know what it's gonna come with. Red tape, delays, uh, with strings attached. Join me.. and I will give you the tools to help you carry out your vision. ASAP. So you in or out?"

"넌 왜 Iron suit를 만들지? 네가 그걸 하는 데는 분명 타당한 이유가 있을 거야, 나 역시 그래. 아니면 밖에 나가서 한번 이 돈을 벌어보든지.. 하지만 어떻게 될지 알잖아. 복잡한 절차에, 지연에.. 온갖 조건이 붙지. 나랑 손잡으면 네 꿈을 실현할 도구를 줄게, 즉시. 할 거야, 말 거야?"

"Better be worth it."

"가치가 있어야 할 거야."

Episode #02. Will the Real Natalie Please Stand Up?

"I've been on my own since I was a kid. If John hadn't found me, I wouldn't be here. Feeling that powerless, it does something to you. Every bruise you take for this team. Every line of code. Every job you plan with me, with this group, means something real. You've lived your lives waiting to be seen. Waiting to be acknowledged for your greatness. Well.. I see you."

"난 어렸을 때부터 늘 혼자였어. John의 눈에 띄지 않았다면 여기 없었겠지. 그런 무력감은 사람을 변하게 해. 이 팀을 위해 감수한 모든 고난과 코드 한 줄 한 줄.. 나와 팀이 함께 짜는 모든 계획엔 전부 의미가 있지. 너희는 평생 눈에 띄기를 갈망해 왔고, 너희의 위대함을 누가 알아봐 주길 기다렸어.. 난 너희가 보여."

"내가 치러야 할 대가야. 그가 날 이렇게 만들었으니까."

Episode #03. We In Danger, Girl

"That's nice, but how can you work without falling apart?"

"다정하네, 그런데 어떻게 무너지지 않고 버텨?"

"Every single dent is a memory I can hold on to. I swear, when I put these on, I just.. I feel her soul in these. She seeps into the music. Makes it better."

"흠집 하나하나까지 기억을 붙들고 사니까.. 거짓말이 아니라 이걸 끼면.. Natalie의 영혼이 느껴져. Natalie가 음악으로 스며들어서 더 좋아지지."

"Stop. Stop! Why are you showing me this?"

"그만해.. 그만하라고! 이걸 왜 보여주는데?"

Episode #04. Bad Magic

"I should've known never to trust you. You're just a selfish kid who can't take any responsibility for herself. You lie, you cheat, you manipulate. You'll do anything you can to save yourself, even if that means hurting other people in the process."

"널 믿지 말아야 했어. 넌 책임을 감당 못하는 이기적인 어린애일 뿐이야. 거짓말하고, 속이고, 이용하고.. 너만 빠져나갈 수 있다면 수단 방법 안 가리지. 그 과정에서 남들이 다친다고 해도."

"That is.. That is horrifying. You had no right to use Natalie as one of your little tech toys, Ri. I thought if anybody would get me, it'd be you. If you think I like that, then you don't know me at all."

"이건.. 이건 끔찍하네. Natalie를 네 장난감으로 쓸 권리는 없어, Ri. 다른 사람은 몰라도 넌 날 이해할 줄 알았어. 내가 좋아할 줄 알았다면 날 전혀 모르는 거야."

"Xa, wait. I swear it just happened. But.. I don't know, you get kinda used to it. It's nice in a way. Like your mixtape."

"Xa, 잠깐만. 맹세해.. 일부러 만든 게 아니야. 하지만.. 글쎄, 익숙해질 거야. 어떤 면에선 좋잖아. 믹스 테이프처럼."

"Oh, my God, Ri. That's not the same thing! I'm honoring her! You're freezing her in time, faking like she's still alive!"

"Ri, 그건 달라! 난 Natalie를 기억하려는 거고! 넌 걔를 살아있는 것처럼 박제해 버렸잖아!"

Episode #05. Karma's A Glitch

"You think you deserve all this, but I'd bet good money, I mean, real good money, that to get where you are in this moment, you screwed a few people. Probably some who loved you. It's the cost of doing business. But the kick is.. It's never gonna be enough."

"당연히 이 모든 것이 네 거라고 생각하겠지만, 장담하는데.. 넌 여기 오려고 널 사랑해 준 사람들을 짓밟았을 거야. 그게 사업 비용이란 명분으로. 하지만 최악은 절대 충분하지 않다는 거지."

"Remember.. magic is a mutual exchange. There's always a cost."

"잊지 마.. 마법은 상호 교환이야. 항상 대가가 따르지."

Episode #06. The Past Is The Past

"You were so sure that you were one of the good ones, but now look at you. You have your fancy suit, but you won't use it to.. to stop a speedin' train or save the city from an asteroid. No, you just want this power for yourself."

"자신이 정의의 편인 줄 알고 있군. 그런데 지금 네 꼴을 봐. 멋진 슈트가 있어도 넌 그걸 이용해서 기차를 막거나 소행성에서 도시를 구하진 못해. 아니, 넌 자신을 위해 이 힘을 원하지."

"That's not why I'm here. It's not worth the cost."

"그래서 온 게 아니야. 그건 그만한 가치가 없으니까."

"Face it, Riri. You're a criminal. Like me."

"현실을 직시해, Riri. 넌 범죄자야, 나처럼 말이지."

"What I want can't be done. The past is the past."

"내가 원하는 건 불가능 해. 과거는 과거일 뿐이야."

"Death is difficult. They say that time heals all wounds, but that's bollocks. The pain, it never goes away. It festers, and it hardens. I can fix that."

"죽음은 어려운 거야. 시간이 모든 상처를 치유한다고 하지만 말도 안 되는 소리지. 고통은 절대 사라지지 않아. 곪고 굳어질 뿐이지. 내가 해결해 줄게."

일단, 이 드라마를 끝까지 보고 난 뒤에 드는 느낌은 바로 'Wow..'(긍정이 아닌.. 다른 의미로..) 평이 좋지 않은 것으로 전부터 유명세를 탔지만, 그래도 'MCU'의 연계로 찾아보게 되었는데.. 그냥 뭐.. 무엇을 위한 드라마였을까..?라는 의구심도 들고.. 참.. 여러 가지 복합적인 생각이 들었던 드라마였다.

이런 말을 하기가 조금 그렇지만.. 개인적으로는 주인공이 매력이 크게 느껴지지 않아.. 마치, 이 드라마가 'Mephisto'를 등장시키기 위한 서사가 아닐까 하는 생각이 들 정도였다.('Mephisto'에 관해 잘은 모르지만.. 팬들에게는 오랫동안 기다려온 빌런이라고..)

아니면 앞전에 본 'Daredevil'을 너무 재미있게 보아서 더 그렇게 느껴진 걸까?.. 아무튼, 나처럼 'MCU' 작품들을 찾아보는 이들에게도 그다지 추천하고 싶지 않은 드라마임에는 분명한 것 같다.(가치를 운운하는 모양새까지..) 이제는 예전만큼의 큰 사랑을 받지 못하고 있는 'MCU'도 다음 작품들을 기점으로 다시 한번 큰 재미를 선사하길 바란다.
