Episode #01. Matinee

"You never let me in, Simon. Not really.. It's a little late to start caring about this relationship."

Episode #02. Self-Tape

"Would you like to charge it your room?"

"방으로 달아 둘까요?"

"How is it that no matter whom I bring in here, boy, girl, my mother, or that odd poetry teacher I'm too close with.. you never judge?"

"어째서 당신은 내가 남자애, 여자애, 어머니, 나와 가까운 그 이상한 선생님.. 누굴 데려오든 왜 날 비난하지 않죠?"

"Who says?"

"누가 그래요?"

"Who says what?"

"뭘요?"

"That I don't judge? Maybe I'm just.. good at hidin' it."

"내가 비난하지 않는다고? 어쩌면.. 잘 감추는 걸 수도 있죠."

Episode #03. Pacomia

"He looked up and said something he has never said again. 'Thank you for loving me, Mummi.' I thought I'd fall apart right there. I don't know if he meant it the way I took it or if he was just saying something. But all that time, I thought he didn't mind how alone he was. I thought, 'Okay, he has his acting, his Criterion DVD collection, all those movie posters on the wall. Maybe he doesn't feel alone.' But he was. And he felt it, even if he didn't say it. Anyway.. I'm glad he's got a friend."

"저를 보더니 처음으로 이런 말을 했어요. '사랑해 줘서 고마워요, 엄마', 가슴이 미어지는 듯했죠. 실제로 그런 뜻으로 말했던 건지 아무 생각 없었던 건지 모르지만 그때까지 저는 애가 혼자인 게 괜찮은 줄 알았거든요. 연기 연습도 하고, Criterion DVD도 모으고, 영화 포스터도 잔뜩 있으니 외롭지 않을 줄 알았어요. 하지만 아니었죠. 말은 안 했지만 외로움을 느꼈던 거예요. 어쨌든.. 이렇게 친구가 있으니 다행이에요."

Episode #04. Doorman

"DeMarr, there is a reason that you are making headlines. You have something that other people just don't. It's a.. a charisma, a charm. On top of all of that, you can become a door. It is not every day that an opportunity like this just falls into your lap. You do realize that, right?"

"DeMarr, 네가 헤드라인에 오르내리는 이유가 있어. 넌 남들한테 없는 게 있잖아. 카리스마, 매력, 무엇보다 넌 문이잖아. 이런 기회는 아무한테나 오는 게 아냐, 그건 알지?"

Every major studio in Hollywood is doing their part to avoid another possible tragedy. They're calling it 'The Doorman Clause.' Going forward, it will be nearly impossible for superpowered individuals to perform in major motion picture or TV roles."

"DODC에서 DeMarr Davis를 낱낱이 뜯어보는 동안 할리우드에선 자구책을 마련했습니다. 할리우드의 주요 영화사들이 이번 일을 교훈 삼아 'Doorman 조항'을 제정한 것입니다. 앞으로 슈퍼파워를 지닌 사람들의 영화나 시리즈 출연은 불가능에 가까워졌습니다."

Episode #05. Found Footage

"Breathe in slowly for a count of five.. Then hold for five.. And you exhale slowly for five.. Then hold for five once again. You don't think about the callback. It's your job as an actor to experience life. This is your life. You've had a victory, a moment of accomplishment. So, fill your cup."

"다섯을 세며 숨을 천천히 들이마시고.. 다섯을 세며 참고.. 다섯을 세며 천천히 내쉬고.. 다시 숨을 참아. 콜백은 생각하지 마. 배우로서 삶을 경험하는 게 우선이야. 삶을, 지금 이 순간을 즐겨야 해. 중요한 건 자신이라고."

Episode #06. Call Back

"Too tired. And Von Kovak keeps pushin'. He wants to see who we really are 'underneath.' But I can't show my 'underneath.' I can't share the real me. The real me would get kicked outta here. I'd never be able to act again."

"너무 지치네요, Von Kovak 감독님은 계속 몰아붙이면서 우리 '내면'을 보고자 하는데 전 '내면'을 드러내지 못해요. 진짜 나를 보여 줄 수 없죠. 진짜 나는 쫓겨나서 평생 연기 못 할 테니까."

"That's not true. The real you isn't your.. condition. The real you.. It's the sum of everything you've experienced. The loss, the joy. Sadness, heartbreak. Losing someone you love so much. Wanting something so badly, you could burst. Hurting someone you care about. Being hurt by those you love. That's your life. That's who you are."

"그렇지 않아, 진정한 자네는 그런 능력과는 별개야. 진정한 자네는 모든 경험의 합이야. 모든 상실과 기쁨, 슬픔, 비탄 사랑하는 이를 잃는 경험, 뭔가를 너무도 원해서 미쳐 버릴 것 같은 느낌, 아끼는 이에게 상처 주는 것, 사랑하는 이에게 상처받는 것, 그게 인생이고 그게 진정한 자네야."

Episode #07. Kathy Friedman

"I loved you. I knew for a long time that you are different. I just.. I didn't wanna say anything because it didn't feel like it was my place. And of course, I understood why you had to be careful. Why no one could know. But you could have trusted me. I was always waiting for you to trust me. And I hope one day you find someone that you can trust. Someone you can really be yourself with."

"난 자기 사랑했어. 자기가 다르다는 것도 오래전부터 알았고 내가.. 간섭할 일이 아니어서 묻어 둔 거야. 자기가 걱정하는 이유도 잘 알고 알려지면 안 되는 것도 알아. 그래도 난 믿어야지. 언젠간 날 믿어 주길 기다렸어. 언젠간 믿을 수 있는 사람을 찾길 바랄게. 자신을 있는 그대로 드러낼 수 있는 사람을."

Episode #08. Yucca Valley

"Promise me you'll live your life to the fullest. Savor every moment, Simon. This movie is your shot. Bloody well enjoy it. Goodbye, Simon."

"뜻깊은 인생을 살겠다고 약속해 주게. 매 순간을 음미하며 이 작품은 자네 거야, 그러니 맘껏 즐기게. 잘 있어, Simon."

"How'd the movie come out?"

"영화는 어떻게 나왔나?"

"It would've been better with you as Barnaby."

"Trevor가 Barnaby였으면 훨씬 좋았겠죠."

어느덧 'MCU: Phase Six'까지 달려온 마지막 'Multiverse Saga'의 첫 번째 드라마. 이 드라마를 접하고 처음 느꼈던 감정은 '신박'한 느낌이었다. 배우들이 드라마 속에서 배우를 연기하며, 영화의 배역을 따내려 고군분투하고, 주인공은 또 평범치 않은 파워를 숨긴 채 'Wonder Man'이라는 히어로 영화에 오디션을 보는.. 드라마 안에서 또 다른 작품을 연기하는 듯한.. 오묘한 느낌이었다.

지금까지 나왔던 히어로물과는 다른 차별성을 보여주면서, 회당 분량은 짧지도 길지도 않은 피로감과 부담을 줄여주면서 재미도 선사했던 드라마였다.(오랜만에 반가운 모습을 보여주었던 'Mandarin'까지..) 다만, 원작 코믹스의 강력한 'Wonder Man'과 'Grim Reaper'를 기대한 팬들의 다소 아쉽다는 평가는 어쩔 수 없나 보다.
